We have been away from Cotacachi for almost 5 months now as we are attending to some family health issues. I haven’t been very diligent about updating my blog but do have a few thoughts about life in Cotacachi versus the U.S.
1) As younger retirees, most of our friends in the U.S. are still working and have their own lives. As almost everyone in Cotacachi is retired, it is much easier to get together for lunch or a beer anytime we feel like it.
2) The best part of being in the States is convenience. No more searching my pockets for small bills or change when buying groceries or produce. Just a swipe of the debit card, pick up our purchase, and we’re on our way.
3) We love summertime in the States. Wintertime…well…not so much. In a perfect world, we would love to spend part of the year in the U.S. and part in Cotacachi.
4) When living overseas, you tend to develop close bonds to other expats who share your language and culture. After all, you are all in the same boat and experiencing the same rewards and struggles. We miss our friends in Ecuador.
